CAMP ALEGRIA

Camp Alegria is a free summer camp at Be’er Sheva Park for children ages 6-12 from June 23 – 27, 2025, 9am – 3pm. Kids will learn about Capoeira, Samba, songs, and rhythms and make their lunches each day. This outdoor camp will give students space to play, explore, and connect with friends and nature.

This week-long summer camp will be led by two master level teaching artists, Mestre Silvinho will teach Capoeira Angola, and Deise Costa will teach Samba. Space is limited, register now to reserve a spot for your child!

TEACHING ARTIST

Silvio Dos Reis

Mestre Silvinho has dedicated over 30 years of his life to Capoeira Angola. He started capoeira with Mestre Rogerio, in Belo Horizonte, Brazil in 1986 and as Mestre Jurandir’s student he was the leader of FICA-BH for 8 years Since 2004 he has been leading the International Capoeira Angola Foundation, ICAF Seattle, founded in 1997 by Mestre Jurandir, as well as the TESC Capoeira Angola Club at the Evergreen State College in Olympia, which was started by Evergreen students under Mestre Jurandir’s leadership since 1998. He also oversees the activities of the study groups in Bellingham (WA) Portland (OR) and Vancouver (BC). Learn more about Mestre Silvinho

Deise Costa

Crowned as the 2022 USA Samba Queen and winner of Adriana Lima's Female Malandro Contest in 2023, Deise Costa is a Brazilian teacher, professional dancer, and entrepreneur.  In 2018, she earned the title of Chicago Samba Queen, catalyzing her mission to disseminate Brazilian Culture worldwide.  Now based in Seattle, Deise teaches an ongoing series of classes blending various styles of Brazilian dance.  Deise's mission goes beyond personal growth; she has dedicated her life to studying movement and empowering others through education.  She creates transformative spaces for healing and self-discovery using Brazilian culture as a powerful catalyst.

Leika Suzumura

Leika is a Community Nourishian dedicated to uplifting health and well-being in her community. She earned her BS in Nutrition from Bastyr University (2006) and  Master of Public Health at the University of Washington (2020). She's been working in South Seattle for over 15 years providing experiential learning opportunities for people to build skills and share food traditions that support health, connect us to our community, and honor the land our food comes from. Her approach to nutrition education is deeply rooted in cultural tradition, bringing people together around shared meals as a way to preserve knowledge and build meaningful connections.
